Today is day one of working for myself. Officially.
In my head, I had a very specific vision of what this morning would look like.
I'd wake up early, put on a cute outfit, do my hair and makeup, and sit down at my beautifully organized desk with a fresh cup of coffee. My planner would be open, my to-do list perfectly prioritized, and I'd probably take a cute little picture to commemorate the first day of this exciting new chapter.
You know, the kind of morning that looks like it belongs in a Pinterest board titled "Successful Entrepreneur Era."
Well, friends. That is not exactly how things went.
Instead, I'm sitting at my dining room table in a sweatshirt, holding an Apple Pencil in one hand and a regular pen in the other, somehow managing two different calendars at once. I've already had two business calls, my desk is nowhere near ready for its Instagram debut, and I don't think I've even looked in a mirror yet.
And you know what?
It's absolutely perfect.
Not because everything went according to plan. Clearly, it didn't.
But because I'm doing it.
I'm sitting here, on a Monday morning, building something that belongs to me. I'm answering calls for businesses I'm growing, managing a schedule that I get to create, and putting two decades of hard-earned experience to work for something I'm genuinely excited about.
And somewhere between juggling calendars and scribbling notes, it hit me.
I spent so much time imagining what this new life would look like that I almost forgot the most important part: actually living it.
There's something funny about the way we approach new beginnings. We convince ourselves that everything has to be ready before we can start. We need the perfect workspace, the perfect outfit, the perfect website, the perfect business plan, the perfect morning routine.
We spend so much time preparing to become the person we want to be that sometimes we forget we're allowed to just start being that person.
I know I'm guilty of it.
But this morning, sitting at my dining room table in my very unremarkable sweatshirt, I realized something pretty remarkable.
I don't need to look like a successful business owner to start becoming one.
I need to do the work. Make the calls. Build relationships. Learn things. Make mistakes. Figure out what works, change what doesn't, and keep going.
The cute outfits will happen. The desk will eventually get organized. I'm sure there will be plenty of mornings when the coffee is hot, the calendar makes sense, and I feel like I have my entire life together.
But today?
Today, I showed up.
And after spending so many years working toward other people's goals, there's something incredibly special about showing up for my own.
So here's to day one. To messy desks, mismatched pens, unexpected phone calls, and dreams that don't need a perfectly curated backdrop to become reality.
Here's to starting before everything is ready.
Here's to building a life that feels good, even when it doesn't look exactly how we pictured it.
And here's to remembering that the first step doesn't have to be perfect. You just have to take it.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have approximately 47 things on my to-do list and absolutely no idea where my coffee went.
Welcome to the new chapter. ❤️
